We build and gain many relationships with people either as friends, companions or just knowing others on our journey. We should always give people the opportunity to have a relationship with us because we all are children of God and actually people should have second chances if he or she messes up because we all make mistakes. However, in dealing with people, we have to have the mentality to know who we’re serving and to utilize the wisdom and understanding that God teaches us to keep standing and hold our own. In other words, put God first before anybody and before all things.
I’m 53 years old and I thank God for each and every year. Throughout my journey, I’ve had good and bad relationships with people but I always gave people the benefit of the doubt to be a friend. I’m not going to say that I was always a good friend either because I wasn’t but as I got older, I grew in wisdom and learned how to love better year after year. Sometimes we allow others to get close to us and then people disappoint us. We have to remember that people will always be people and it’s important for us to stay close to God because when people act up or disappoint us, we will know how to gain peace through it all. God gave all of us a journey to live and He gave us the opportunity to choose how we’re going to live it each day. We can’t expect people to be what we want them to be all the time because they are learning life as well. Our role is to gain wisdom and understanding so when disappointments come, we know how to handle it through love. Remember our role is to serve God so when we stay focused on that, we’ll know that it doesn’t matter what others do but what matters is how we handle ourselves to give hope and representation of the Lord through our actions. When we put God first, we gain joy, we gain peace and we gain happiness. We’re here to allow God to work in our lives according to His plan. When we don’t put God first, we get caught up and distracted. This is when the stress builds up, our hearts are broken and we feel like we don’t have a purpose. Your life may not be where you want it to be but God made you for a purpose and when we put Him first, things change and we will see why it’s importance to stay connected to Him. Let’s work to stay on the right path so we’re not allowing others to control who we are and what we do. I thank every person that God allowed me to encounter because they helped me to grow in some way. We have to know how to take the negative and the positive and still serve. We’ve seen many come and go, young and old and we’re still here. Each day is a blessing and a gift. Let’s not take that for granted but learn how to put God first so that we can enjoy our days on our journey. Let us pray: Dear Lord, please help each and every one of us to learn the importance of putting You first before all things. Please help us to gain wisdom and not get distracted and please hold our hand when we’re weak. Lord, You know sometimes we fail but please guide us each day to where You want us to be and help us to work on ourselves so that we can be better and give good representation of You. We love You and we thank You. In Jesus name we pray. If you have time, listen to this commencement speech by Denzel Washington. Very motivating and it connects with the topic of today to put God first. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BxY_eJLBflk Amen and Thank You Lord.
